EDWARDS — May is Melanoma Month, and Dr. Jean Liu Urquhart and the Mountain Dermatology Specialists’ team in Edwards are offering free skin cancer screenings this month to help Vail Valley locals enjoy the summer months to come.

Melanoma, the most dangerous and deadliest form of skin cancer, is caused by un-repaired DNA damage to skin cells which leads to the development of malignant tumors.

Although it is extremely dangerous, but curable, there are multiple ways you can prevent melanoma altogether. Avoiding tanning and tanning salons, covering up with clothing and UV-blocking sunglasses, using a broad spectrum sunscreen daily, seeking the shade and seeing your physician every year are just a few of the many ways you can avoid skin cancer.

Keep your skin safe and healthy by scheduling a free appointment with the Mountain Dermatology Specialists’ team. The free skin cancer screening appointments will be available May 30 at the Edwards location, 105 Edwards Village Blvd., Suite G211, and can be made by calling 970-926-1800.
