Hanging Lake trail will close Monday, Tuesday
GARFIELD COUNTY — The Hanging Lake trail, near Interstate 70 in Glenwood Canyon, will be closed Monday and Tuesday for a second round of maintenance.
Hanging Lake receives nearly 1,000 visitors each day in the summer, and the trail to the lake is in need of repair. The popular site recently closed so crews could move large rocks and replace a handrail foundation.
During this second of three closures this summer, a Rocky Mountain Youth Corps crew will remove graffiti, repaint bridges and benches and reconstruct rock bridge abutments. The main trail to Hanging Lake will reopen on Wednesday, but visitors should expect the side trail from the lake to Spouting Rock to be closed through Thursday, while crews build rock steps into the hillside.
Hanging Lake Trail will close again Sept. 10 for the Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers’ annual work day.
Here’s the full schedule of closures this season:
Monday and Tuesday: Full trail closure (Spouting Rock side trail closed through Thursday).
September 10: Full trail closure.
During the closures on Monday, Tuesday and September 10, the Colorado Department of Transportation will close Exit 125 and the off-ramp, and the Forest Service will post staff at the trailhead.
