High Country Speaker Series announced
AVON — Walking Mountains Science Center and the Eagle Valley Library District recently announced the speakers and topics for the 13th annual High Country Speaker Series. This winter’s theme is Mountain Culture and the Environment — Creating Cohesion. Speakers include:
• Feb. 27, 5:30 p.m., Walking Mountain Science Center. John Calderazzo’s presentation “High Culture: Mountains and our Minds” will discuss what landscapes, especially those capped by snow, can tell us about history, humanity and culture. Reception to follow.
• March 26, 5:30 p.m., Avon Public Library. Jennifer Jordan’s presentation “Moving Mountains: Strong Women in a Man’s World” will discuss the perspectives and treatment of women in the mountaineering community while exploring how these dynamics can have an effect on the experiences and relationships women have with the outdoors.
• April 10, 5:30 p.m., Avon Public Library. Join Colorado nature photographer John Fielder and river rat Pat Tierney for their presentation “The Yampa River: Free Flowing and Wild Forever.” Fielder will present images of mountain tundra wildflowers, eagles, elk and the various canyons of the Yampa, supplemented by Tierney’s text.
