New landfill scale house celebrates grand opening
EAGLE COUNTY — Community members are invited to join Eagle County Solid Waste & Recycling at noon Tuesday to celebrate the opening of the new landfill scale house. The grand opening will take place at the Eagle County Landfill, located at 815 Ute Creek Road near Wolcott.
The new scale house is a $1.1 million project paid for by the Landfill Fund and completed in October. Customers disposing of materials are now able to drive up to the scale house, weigh in and out, as well as pay without leaving their vehicles. This provides safer, more efficient disposal for customers and staff.
Services provided by Eagle County Solid Waste & Recycling include:
• Electronics recycling at the Household Hazardous Waste facility for 20 cents per pound.
• Recycling at the Materials Recovery facility for glass containers, aluminum, steel and tin cans, plastic containers 1-7, corrugated cardboard, office paper and magazines.
• Tire disposal.
• Free wood chips.
• A community swap area for items in good condition.
In addition, Eagle County residents may dispose of up to 1,600 pounds of trash and four tires per year through the landfill’s free punch pass program. For more information, go to http://www.eaglecounty.us/recyclingwaste.
There are three keys to look at when deciding the bonus days: staffing, skier excitement and conditions.
