AVON — The Eagle River Fire Protection District will host an open house Saturday at the fire station at 351 Benchmark Road in Avon. The event will feature fun for the whole family — including interactive displays, games and information, as well as hot dogs straight off the grill — is free and open to the public and will run from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

FUN FOR ALL AGES

Kids can try their hand at squirting a fire hose at a “burning” building, get a tour of the station and learn about fire apparatus. Adults can learn about ways to be prepared for an emergency, important tips for creating “defensible space” around their homes and the proper use of fire extinguishers. Other stations include the use of CPR and the use of automated external defibrillators, car seat installation demonstrations, what to know when you call 911 and more.

“We are delighted to invite our friends and neighbors to visit our station,” said district community risk manager Tracy LeClair. “We think this will be a lively, fun, informative and worthwhile event for everyone.”

Partner organizations in the event include Avon Police Department, Eagle County Red Cross, Eagle County Paramedic Services, Starting Hearts and Vail Public Safety Communications Center.

The event is sponsored by the Vail Daily and Vail Electronics/Meridian InterMountain. For more information, email tleclair@eagleriverfire.org.
