What goods or services do you provide? Primarily, we are a business brokerage. We determine a proper valuation for your business, then we market it and sell it to qualified buyers. Once we get an accurate assessment of the space, the owner’s discretionary cash flow and future growth opportunities, we can make a strong and concise case to our pool of buyers. We can also help in the transition of ownership as we offer marketing and management services. Our advisors are all industry experts in their categories.
What’s new or exciting at your place? We have been moving aggressively into what is generally considered the lower middle market. These are businesses with revenue between $5 million and $50 million. Another exciting development is our nationwide and global reach. We represent a wine company involving Olivia Newton-John and property development in Parrot Cay, Turks and Caicos.
What strategy do you use to differentiate your business from your competition? Many business owners trying to sell their business use a real estate brokerage. We specifically specialize in selling businesses (although many times real estate is involved). In the case of most resort businesses, the businesses don’t own the real estate in which they operate. Our network of investors is looking to buy a business. We directly target the ideal candidate.
What philosophy do you follow in dealing with your customers? What can your customers expect from you? Our philosophy is principle before profit. We do that by providing our clients with the best possible advice to allow them to get the most out of their business. It doesn’t do our clients justice to overprice a business that will not sell, nor does it do them good to underprice it just so we can sell it fast. We do not charge any up-front fees and consultations are always free.
Tell us a little about your background, education and experience: I grew up in the Boulder area, and have lived in Vail for 10 years. I met my wife here, and we have two children. I have a degree in marketing communications from the University of Colorado. My background has been mostly in sports marketing.
I have been fortunate enough to be a team principle at the Indianapolis 500, and have worked with some amazing brands throughout the years. My partner Chris Nielsen is from Omaha, Nebraska. He had his own registered investment advisory company there for many years. He managed portfolios, stocks, bonds, mutual funds and eventually moved into business brokerage.
There are three keys to look at when deciding the bonus days: staffing, skier excitement and conditions.
