Street sweeping under way in Vail, Avon
VAIL — Street sweeping operations will be getting underway in Vail this week and will continue through May 31. Crews will be working eight hours each day, five days a week to complete the sweeping which includes curbside cinder pick up. Residents are asked to rake the cinders from their yards into the right-of-way and to call the public works department at 479-2158 when ready for pick up, then allow a few days for completion.
The cinder pick up schedule is as follows:
Mondays: Vail Village, Lionshead and Sandstone district from Spraddle Creek to Buffehr Creek.
Tuesdays: West Vail North district from Buffehr Creek to northwest end.
Wednesdays: West Vail South district from West Forest Road to Intermountain.

Thursdays: East Vail district from Golf Course to end of East Vail.
Fridays: Vail Village, Lionshead, Frontage Roads and Roundabouts.

Avon also sweeping
With spring time weather patterns dropping less snow in the valley floors, the Avon Public Works Department switches from driving snowplows to driving street-sweepers. Street-sweeping operations are conducted each spring to clear the roads of winter debris including cinders. Residents are asked to call the Public Works Department at 970-748-4118 if they sweep cinders onto the road right-of-way for pick up.
Regular street-sweeping keeps road surfaces clear of debris such as small rocks, glass, nails, twigs and leaves as well as removes harmful substances from roadways, preventing toxins from flowing into storm drains and eventually into the Eagle River. The Public Works Department conducts street-sweeping operation throughout the spring, summer and fall.
The public is reminded that street-sweeping vehicles are slow moving and cannot stop or turn as readily as most vehicles. Please allow ample space for the street-sweepers to maneuver freely. If you have questions, call Gary Padilla, Public Works Superintendent at 970-748-4118.
