Trail closures to start on Dec. 15 in Avon, slated to reopen April 15
AVON — Town officials have announced upcoming trail closures in the West Avon Preserve to protect wildlife winter habitat. Closures will be in effect from Dec. 15 through April 15 at the earliest and apply to all multi-use trails except the Our Backyard and PB&J trails.
Leading up to the posted closure period, the town advises trail users to not ride the trails if they are muddy, especially considering the recent moisture and freeze thaw cycles.
“Riding on a mud trail wrecks the trail,” said town of Avon Planning Director Matt Pielsticker. “It leaves ruts, contributes to erosion and creates hard to fix trail surfaces.”
Barriers and Signage
New this year, there will be physical closure barriers and signage installed at trail entrances of closed trails. The PB&J and Our Backyard trails will remain open through the winter. Those trails are best accessed from the Beaver Creek Point parking lot and O’Neal Spur Pocket Park, respectively.

There are three keys to look at when deciding the bonus days: staffing, skier excitement and conditions.
