EAGLE COUNTY — This year Vail and Edwards Rotary Clubs are sponsoring three Rotary Exchange students who are studying in different countries: Andrea Arroyo in Austria, Sierra Trygg in Chile and Emily Duncan in Thailand. These students live with host families and attend high schools where they study in the local language.

Both Rotary clubs are also hosting an exchange student from Italy — Hismael “Scooter” Pinkerton — who is attending Battle Mountain High School, and also will be hosting Julia Pinho from Brazil starting in January.

At the regular meeting of the Vail Rotary Club on Nov. 12, returning exchange students — called “rebounders” — spoke eloquently about their journeys and their experiences. Chase Gardner studied in Austria, Gabe Trillo studied in Taiwan, and Victor Guilmineau studied in Hungary.

Although the deadline has passed for applications for the 2015-16 school year, it’s never too early to start thinking about a year as a Rotary Exchange Student. The Vail Valley exchange with 20 countries around the world. Please see the website: http://mountainandplainsrye.com.

The Vail Rotary Club meets for a breakfast meeting every Wednesday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at Manor Vail Lodge. Guests are welcome. For more information, visit http://www.vailrotary.com.
