Vail seeks housing authority members
VAIL —The town of Vail is seeking community members to fill two vacancies on the Vail Local Housing Authority. Applications are due to the town by March 28 at 5 p.m. Applicants will be interviewed by the Vail Town Council at its April 5 afternoon meeting, with appointments to follow at the evening meeting.
This five-member board meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 3 p.m. with additional meetings scheduled on an as-needed basis. One appointment is for a five-year term and will expire May 31, 2021; the second appointment will serve out a term until May 31, 2018, as a result of an early resignation.
Responsibilities of members
The Vail Local Housing Authority Board is responsible for advancing the town’s affordable housing initiatives in its role as the board of directors for the business of the Vail Local Housing Authority. The duties may include budget approval, adopting policies, advocacy, staff oversight, strategic and long-term planning, setting development and acquisition parameters and potentially managing the existing town’s deed-restricted housing inventory. Technical experience in one of the following areas is also desirable: financing of large projects, development, construction or construction management, planning, design or legal. Knowledge and experience with affordable or workforce housing issues is highly desirable.
Applicants must be full-time, year-round residents of Eagle County who are either residents of the town of Vail or work for a business holding a town of Vail business license. Authority members must have a proven ability to be an effective advocate for a full range of housing projects and be able to promote a vision for local employee housing as established by the authority.
