Vail-Summit Orthopaedics announces departure of spine surgeon

VAIL — Vail-Summit Orthopaedics announced this week spine surgeon Dr. Greg Poulter is leaving the practice in June to pursue a new career opportunity with OrthoIndy, a large orthopedic group located in Indianapolis.
Poulter, originally from Utah, joined Vail-Summit in 2008. He completed his orthopedic residency at the University of Michigan and a fellowship in adult and pediatric spine surgery at the University of California in San Francisco.
“I know he is an avid biker, so I hope he enjoys biking on flat land,” said Vail-Summit CEO Chip Webb. In all seriousness, “We’re going to miss Dr. Poulter, but we wish him all the best and hope everything works out well in Indianapolis.”
Vail-Summit has already launched the recruitment process and has interviewed candidates to replace Poulter, Webb said Monday.

Continue Accepting Referrals
Vail-Summit will continue to accept referrals for all spine issues in the event it takes a little longer to find Poulter’s replacement, Webb said. Dr. Scott Raub, a spine specialist at Vail-Summit, specializes in non-surgical spine care and offers interventional procedures, such as steroid and other medicinal injections, to drastically reduce spine pain.
“As a spine specialist, Dr. Raub works very closely with spine surgeons,” Webb said. “People can have back pain for a lot of different reasons, and sometimes surgery isn’t always the best remedy.”
Serving Since 1979
Vail-Summit Orthopaedics has been serving since 1979 the Vail and Summit County communities, arguably the most active sports population in the country. All of the doctors on staff are fellowship-trained in their respective specialties, which is the equivalent of 10 years of practice, and treat more sports-related injuries than the average orthopedist, according to a Vail-Summit news release.
