Vail, CO Colorado

VAIL, Colorado – Vail Police are again seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect involved in burglary in West Vail. Sometime between 12:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, May Palace, located at 2109 N. Frontage Road in West Vail, was burglarized. It is unknown how the suspect was able to get into the building, but he or she used common hand tools to cut and pry open the safe. The suspect was able to take an undisclosed amount of cash from the safe.

This burglary is similar to those seem throughout Vail last winter.

“Based on the evidence we’ve gathered from the scene, it seems to be the same burglar as last year,” Vail Police Detective Justin Liffick. “He uses common hand tools, such as a cordless drill and an angle grinder, to get into the business and ultimately into the safe.”

The Vail Police Department will be increasing its patrols at night during the winter months throughout Vail.

Video surveillance of the suspect gathered in last winter’s burglaries indicates he is a white male, approximately 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighing approximately 150 to 180 pounds, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and a black ski mask and baseball hat. The suspect was also carrying a backpack containing a variety of tools, including a cordless drill and several pry tools. The suspect is targeting cash registers, safes and ATMs.

Businesses are urged to take extra precautions to secure money, valuables and personal information, as well as ensuring all doors and windows are locked at the end of business. The Vail Police recommend removing all cash from the premises at the end of the business day, as well as ensuring that any surveillance and/or alarm systems are operational and activated.

Anyone with information or question regarding these incidents is asked to contact the Vail Police Department at 970-479-2200, and can remain anonymous. A $1,000 reward is being offered for anyone with information that leads to the identification or arrest of this suspect.
