Another motorcyclistdies on Highway 131
Petr Adamec, 33, of Avon, was killed in a motorcycle accident Sunday near State Bridge. Police reports indicate Adamec was traveling south at a high rate of speed near mile marker 17, about a mile north of Bond, when the accident occurred.Prior to the crash, motorists reported he was passing vehicles in a no-passing zone. He failed to negotiate a left-hand curve , lost control and struck the guardrail. Adamec was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.This is the second fatal motorcycle accident on Highway 131 in the last week. A Rhode Island man died last Tuesday after his motorcycle hit a dump truck near Wolcott.Adamec was from Studenka, Czechoslovakia, just east of Prague. He had been working steadily to obtain a green card. He was en route to meet a group of friends on motorcycles at the State Bridge Lodge, not far from the accident site.He worked with Ed Dennis at Avon Autos, buying, selling and repairing vehicles. When not doing that, Adamec delivered The Denver Post and the Rocky Mountain News, as well as the Vail Daily, in Eagle and Gypsum. The latter he has done since 2001.Friends said he enjoyed repairing and buying and selling cars, but his main hobby was the stock market. A natural entrepreneur, his attentions were drawn to learning about and participating in America’s stock market, they said. They also recalled his tales of Alaska, and fishing and hiking there.About 20 of Adamec’s friends met near the scene of the accident Monday night to remember their friend. A candle was lit in honor of him, and they shared some of their final thoughts and wishes for their fallen friend.Memorial services are being arranged and will be announced in the near future. He is survived by his 3-year-old son, Honza, In Czechoslovakia.
