Answerland – speeding in Edwards
Q: I would like to see what can be done by local traffic enforcement about the multitude of drivers who ignore the speed limit on Edwards Village Boulevard from Edwards Elementary School to the post office. I would like to see some speeding tickets being issued to those who think that they’re racing the Indy 500 on that stretch of road every morning.
This is even a posted “fines doubled for speeding” zone, but it doesn’t seem to matter to anyone.
A: Eagle County Sheriff Joe Hoy said he’ll ask deputies to pay a little more attention to that stretch of road. But, he said, writing tickets is just a temporary solution.
“As soon as we leave, people will get right back to their old habits,” Hoy said, adding that he simply doesn’t have enough staff to have a traffic cop along the street on a regular basis.
In the long run, Hoy said, the street will need some sort of “traffic calming” work. That could including things such as speed bumps, dips, or even planters in the middle of the street.
