Q: Crews have been doing a lot of work in the past month as the Beaver Creek Bear Lot. What are they doing over there?

A: The parking lot, along with the neighboring Elk Lot down the road on U.S. Highway 6, got restriped this summer. The new configuration will give the lot a “cleaner look” and make maintenance easier, resort officials said. Little Bear Lot will get resurfaced this fall, meaning it will get a light coating to cover up cracks.

Other than that, the boards and construction activity you’ve seen in the east lot don’t have anything to do with the parking lot at all. Race crews are using the lot as a staging site for Red Tail Camp, where races will be held for the Birds of Prey World Cup in December and FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in February.

The area is being used to load and unload equipment and materials, including cranes and wood, that will go up to the finish area, said Ashley Smith, of Beaver Creek’s communications department.
