Answerland: What’s that construction job in Avon?

Q: What is all the construction at the northeast corner of U.S. Highway 6 and Avon Road, as well as on the other side of the river at Hurd Lane and Avon Road?

A: Matt Pielsticker, the town of Avon’s planning manager, replies: “The construction along Avon Road and U.S. Highway 6 is the next phase of the Eagle Valley Trail. The project is partially funded with a $497,000 Great Outdoors Colorado grant and the remaining from town of Avon funds. This phase consists of widening the switchbacks near Hurd Lane, installing a bridge over the Eagle River that will also provide spectator viewing of the whitewater park, and then lead to Highway 6. Next, we will build a bridge over Beaver Creek this fall which will be funded by Eagle County. Next year, we will extend it to the Eaglebend apartments driveway on Highway 6 and eventually connect it at Stonebridge Drive to the section Eagle County completed this spring.”
