Antifreeze seeps into Gore Creek
VAIL ” Approximately 100 gallons of glycol, or antifreeze, erupted from a snow melting system in Vail Wednesday and some got into the Gore Creek.
The pipe system ” which carries heated glycol under walkways to melt snow ” broke during repair. The glycol shot a couple feet into the air and spilled onto the grass 60 to 70 feet from the creek near International Bridge, said Bill Carlson, environmental health officer for Vail.
Just a few gallons seeped into the creek, Carlson said.
“As far as I’m concerned, it’s a minimal impact to the creek,” he said.
Firefighters contained and cleaned the glycol spill.
