Daily staff report
Vail, CO Colorado

EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado – Apex Mountain School is offering training for a Wilderness First Responder certification.

Full courses are available April 10-17 and May 22-29. Re-certification classes are April 9-10 and May 21-22.

The Apex Mountain School/SOLO Wilderness First Responder curriculum teaches long-term care, improvised resources, and dealing with varying environmental conditions.

SOLO is Stonehearth Open Learning Opportunities, which developed and taught WFR courses in the mid-1980’s. The courses are designed to enable outdoor leaders, guides, and rangers to deal with crises in remote settings.

It’s an 80-hour certification course that meets DOT national standards for first responders. The emphasis is prevention over treatment and decision-making.

It’s based on the Patient Assessment System, which trains students to determine and address the status and needs of backcountry patients.

There are no prerequisites for the full course.

Syllabus, first aid book, and workbook are included in your course fee.

Price for the full course is $675. The cost for the recertification course is $290, plus $35 for the CPR update.
