Appeals court affirms Colorado campaign finance law

Associated Press
Denver, CO Colorado

DENVER, Colorado ” The state Court of Appeals has upheld Colorado’s voter-approved campaign finance restrictions.

The court sided with a lower court Wednesday on a lawsuit over Amendment 27. That was an amendment approved by voters six years ago to prohibit corporations from using their general funds to make political contributions or to pay for electioneering materials.

The Independence Institute, a conservative think tank based in Golden, challenged the restrictions on First Amendment grounds.

But the appeals court upheld a lower decision dismissing the lawsuit.

The head of the think tank says it will be appealed again to the state’s highest court.
