Area musician killed in crash

NEW CASTLE, Colorado ” A Silt musician died in an accident near New Castle Sunday night.

Garfield County Deputy Coroner Ray Alexander identified the victim as Lonnie Sandoval, 37, of Silt. Alexander said Sandoval was a musician who played in local bands including Cowboy Attitude.

The Colorado State Patrol said Sandoval was driving west on Highway 6 when he crashed outside New Castle at about 9:17 p.m. Sandoval drove a gray 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee off the right side of the road, down an embankment and into a boulder, the patrol said in a news release.

The cause of the crash was still under investigation Monday morning.

The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, New Castle Police Department, Burning Mountains Fire Protection District, and P and K Auto Body also responded to the scene of the accident.
