Argentinian wine importer in Avon Wednesday
VAIL CO, Colorado
AVON – Avon restaurant and wine bar, vin48, is hosting a Argentinian focused wine tasting Tuesday night. Denver based importer Jon Chaplin will lead a wine tasting from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the restaurant’s wine bar.
“Argentinian wines and especially Malbec have been wildly popular in the past few years,” said Greg Eynon, owner/wine director of vin48. “JC’s wines will give our guests a glimpse of the diversity of Malbecs out there.”
Brazos wine imports is a boutique importer based out of Denver and Charleston, South Carolina. The company was founded in 2008 by partners Brian Ravitsky and Jonathan Chaplin. Brazos mission is to work with family owned, small production boutique wineries from around the world. Currently Brazos is working with four wineries in Argentina representing several growing regions.
Argentina’s wine industry is still relatively new. Although the country’s wine production dates back to the 16th century, the inclination of growth for consumption was essentially based on volume and not quality, so there was little significance placed on the art of planting vine varieties best suited to each location and its ecosystem. Argentina’s wine industry was transformed in the 1990s when international investors had the foresight to recognize the value and untapped resource of Argentina’s wine producing potential. It has been estimated that over $1.5 billion in new vineyard investment occurred in the following decade, designed to strengthen and improve the industry’s production quality. Argentina wine regions have since undergone a radical transformation, and now rival the production quality of European wine-producing countries.
Every Wednesday, the restaurant will serve wines from visiting winemakers, importers and industry insiders, paired with chef/owner Charles Hays’ cuisine. All the wines served are available for purchase at discounted prices from Beaver Liquors in Avon.-
