VAIL — Winter sports such as skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing are high-intensity activities that demand a certain level of advance preparation to avoid injury and minimize muscle soreness and fatigue. Starting on Monday, Aria Athletic Club will launch its 28th annual Ski & Snowboard Conditioning program. The program is a six-week progressive fitness series that incorporates plyometrics, agility, leg and core strengthening with dynamic stability exercises to tone and prepare the body for outdoor winter fitness.

The program offers four different enrollment options, including full program, morning sessions, evening sessions or single drop-in sessions, and it’s open to members and nonmembers.

For years, Aria Club fitness experts have leveraged the skills, knowledge and training learned on the mountain to create real-life, pre-ski programs that can be executed indoors. Held in Vail Cascade’s award-winning Club, Aria’s accredited coaches and trainers will direct the ski-conditioning program Mondays through Thursdays through Nov. 19.

Each session will begin with a warm-up, followed by movement preparation exercises involving stretching and muscle-activation techniques. Attendees will then be split into groups and rotate through four stations designed to focus on plyometrics and agility, leg strengthening, core strengthening and dynamic stability.

Aria’s coaches will incorporate two fitness systems into this year’s training program. TRX suspension training is a body-weight exercise that develops strength, balance, flexibility and core stability. FitWall is a vertical wall system that uses body weight for resistance, engaging and challenging all muscle groups to increase functional strength.

“This is by far the best way to prepare and get in sport-specific shape for the demands of skiing and snowboarding,” said Dan Timm, athletic director at Aria Athletic Club & Spa.

In addition to training sessions, all participants will be invited to sponsored events and social gatherings at Aria Athletic Club, including Monday’s kick-off party and the Nov. 18 completion celebration. Participants will also receive exclusive promotions and giveaways courtesy of program sponsors, including product giveaways, hotel stays, sporting event tickets, dinner gift certificates and spa packages.
