BEAVER CREEK, Colorado ” What a season it has been! The green grass is peeking out from under the snow, and we’re in full swing planning for the summer months. But before I get into that, I have to encourage you to round out the season in style with our last performance of the winter 2008-09 lineup: Arlo Guthrie and his “Lost World Tour” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

The show celebrates his first recording of new material in 12 years by featuring many of these new tracks, along with his beloved classics. Of course, the trademark of Guthrie’s performance style will once again be on display as he shares stories, philosophies and his incredible sense of humor with the audience throughout the evening.

Guthrie is joined on this tour by son Abe Guthrie on keyboards and vocals, Terry a La Barry on Drums, Bobby Sweet on lead guitar, Jody Lampro on bass and The Burns Sisters on backup vocals.

Guthrie sold out the Vilar Performing Arts Center in 2006 with the “Guthrie Family Legacy Tour,” and we’re thrilled to have him back for this latest tour featuring new works.

Guthrie is an accomplished musician, playing the piano, six and 12-string guitar, harmonica and a dozen other instruments. His musical abilities only tell half the story ” it is his rapport with the audience that completes the concert experience.

From Woodstock and Vietnam to his father Woody, Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan and everything in between ” Guthrie weaves a tapestry of songs and stories that defines a generation.

This will be my third time seeing him live, and I can’t wait to spend an evening with him again. I imagine he will sing “City of New Orleans” and “The Motorcycle” song, but don’t expect to hear “Alice’s Restaurant” at this concert.

While this concert marks the end of our winter season, the Vilar will remain a center of spring activity with educational programs, local performances and special events throughout the next few months. In addition, tickets went on sale this week for two very special concerts in the summer season. Legendary jazz pianist and vocalist Dianna Krall will perform on Aug. 2, and Grammy-winning pop/rock vocalist Michael Bolton will take the stage on Aug. 24.

These tickets are selling fast (literally flying off the shelves!), so please contact the box office to be sure you don’t miss out on these incredible shows.

The full summer season will be announced the first of May, but in the meantime, please check out our Web site at http://www.vilarpac.org for full artist biographies, videos and updates on the calendar.

I look forward to seeing you at the Vilar to celebrate spring and anticipate summer.
