Art activities at Alpine Arts Center for children, adults

Daily staff report
A special Cocktails & Canvas class is being held at Alpine Arts Center on Christmas Eve; these are some of the finished masterpieces from last year's step by step painting and wine event.

EDWARDS — When you’re ready for a break from the cold, Alpine Arts Center is the perfect way to spend a morning or an afternoon getting creative during vacation. From December Vacation Art Camps to Cocktails & Canvas and Paint Pottery, Alpine Arts Center offers classes and drop-in activities for all ages.

Kids Vacation Art Camps are scheduled Monday through Friday today through Jan. 6, excluding Christmas Day and Jan. 1. For flexibility, parents can register their children for individual art camp sessions or multiple sessions. Morning camps for ages 3-6 and 7-12 are held from 9 a.m. to noon, and 7-12 year olds can also select afternoon or full-day camps.

“Vacation Art Camps expose children to all art mediums, from painting and sculpture to printmaking, drawing and throwing on the pottery wheels,” said Lauren Merrill, owner of Alpine Arts Center.

For Vacation Art Camps, reservations are recommended as space fills quickly.

Art for adults

For adults, Alpine Arts Center offers Cocktails & Canvas or Cocktails & Clay events every Wednesday and Saturday night, as well as a regular schedule of classes and private lessons. The cocktails classes are a great alternative to dinner and a movie, designed for artists of all levels, especially beginners. An instructor guides the group through a featured project of the night, which is either an acrylic painting on canvas or a clay sculpture. Beer and wine are served at Alpine Arts Center’s bar, and at the end of the class, participants have a finished masterpiece to take home. For featured projects and to register, see Alpine Arts Center’s online event calendar. There is also a special Christmas Eve Cocktails & Canvas event, painting a beautiful Christmas tree snowy scene. Merrill said, “It’s fun to see everyone’s custom designed ornaments and trees, and a special way to spend time with family or friends getting in the Christmas spirit.”

In addition to scheduled classes, drop-in hours for paint pottery, crafts, clay and painting during vacation are offered seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., excluding Christmas Day and New Years Day. Alpine Arts Center will help drop-in customers select a project that can be worked on independently for up to a few hours. Drop-in pricing is $12 per participant plus materials. Alpine Arts Center can also travel to your home or hotel with 24 hours advanced notice.
