Artist and yoga teacher Tara Goike will unite the palette and the yoga mat this Friday at 5 p.m. with a two-hour workshop at The Yoga Studio at the Vail Athletic CluGoike has been teaching yoga locally for seven years and is currently the art and physical education teacher at Stone Creek Middle School. She created this workshop to honor the Mandala, which is a Sanskrit term for circle.”Right now we’re beginning to welcome the sun back into our lives,” she said. “The sun is circular, we circle our way around the sun once a year, and so the circle is a pattern of energy we see everywhere in nature. Yoga to me is very much about connecting to energy patterns in nature, so we’ll be circling our way around our yoga mats, creating heat in our bodies and emulating the characteristics of the sun.”Goike explained that Buddhist and Hindu art often takes the form of a Mandala, so following the yoga and meditation practice she will invite practitioners to create their own artwork to take home. Art supplies will be provided, and the workshop costs $30 for guests and $20 for members. The Yoga Studio at the Vail Athletic Club is located within the Vail Mountain Lodge & Spa, at 352 East Meadow Drive.
