Art Battle 2011 set for Saturday in Vail
Art Battle 2011 has everything but cheerleaders.
The Eagle Valley Artists Alliance is hosting its annual Art Battle on Saturday evening at Solaris in Vail.
Artists do whatever it is they do for three hours, from 7-10 p.m., in an extended artistic smackdown. The public votes for its favorites.
Artists will be working in all sorts of medium, such as painting, mixed-media, sculpture and even tattoo art.
People gather, like they would for any other spectator sport, cheer and jeer.
“It’s a cultural opportunity you don’t often get in mountain towns,” said Tracy Gordon, EVAA Board Member.
The Solaris will accommodate 12 to 15 competing artists. The last two winners, Dustin Zentz (2010) and Fernando Palomo (2009), are in this year’s fields.
They like the creative energy that competition generates, Palomo said.
“By the end of the night, an amazing art show has been created.”
Admission is $25 cash for adults and $5 for children, at the door. That also gets you appetizers and one beverage.
