Artist Fernando Palomo’s artwork on display in Avon
Vail, CO, Colorado
Location: Loaded Joe’s, Avon
Artist reception: Saturday, 6 to 8 p.m.
Fernando Palomo: It’s my life. And probably the only thing I know. It’s communicating visually.
FP: I didn’t want to be an artist, really … I wanted to be Welterweight Champion of the World. Or the bravest matador alive. A doctor, in other words.
FP: Inspiration comes from my travels. I’ve traveled to Europe and Asia several times. I’ve gathered inspiration and techniques along the way. I’m inspired by my surroundings most of the time. I can be in any mood to create whatever comes to mind … I enjoy creating when I’m in my most comfortable setting and relaxed.
FP: I like acrylic because its affordable and eco friendly. For a while now I haven’t had a studio to work from so it can be really hard working with other mediums without the proper studio. I miss working with oils, for that reason.
FP: My style is a bit of impressionism, surrealism and contemporary fashion design meets urban flair. Does that make any sense? I’m not sure what my style may be but it sure does appreciate many styles and genres.
FP: I would like to meet Dali, Goya, Picasso, Velasquez, DaVinci, Michael Angelo and Modigliani. And the Dutch masters. Too many to name.
FP: I don’t own anything of my own at the moment … Sometimes (my paintings) end up in the the hands of people because of the weirdest situations. (Being in a car accident and paying off the person with a painting that was laying in my backseat.)
FP: I sell from word of mouth for now … I’m pretty new to the valley so I have plenty of seeds to plant. I’ve sold some art at The Den Skate Shop in Riverwalk in Edwards. And I’m looking forward to working something out with the owners, Kristi and Nicole, at The Bookworm.
