VAIL — Globally collected mixed media and pastel artist James Jensen returns to Masters Gallery Vail today and Wednesday. In his bold new collection of contemporary works, Jensen has found inspiration in combining materials such as wood, gold leaf, oil, acrylic, fabrics and distressed metal.

Since the industrial revolution, industrial materials that have become mundane — steel, iron, stone and wood — have surrounded us. These are materials that define our times, Jensen said.

“I hope that in creative hands, steel becomes seductive, wood is uncommon and colorful paint, well, the joy of paint is my domain,” he said.

Continually working within his craft, the artist exudes a love of life, spirit and color through his canvases. Masters Gallery in Vail will host a reception for Jensen today and Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m.

Masters Gallery is located on East Meadow Drive in Vail Village. For more information, call 970-477-0600 or visit
