Dear Dan Smith: I write to thank you personally for your assistance with Aspen’s New Year’s Eve bomb incident. As you know, it is a rare occurrence that such a large-scale incident impacts smaller communities in Colorado. Through your commitment to professionalism, you assisted the Aspen community at its time of need, contributing to an overall response of more than 230 people. I commend you for your willingness to come to our aid at this critical moment.

As you most likely know, the incident drew to a close in the morning hours of Jan. 1, as the devices were disarmed, the suspect located and the first operational period was concluded. This incident ended without any injuries to responders or further inconvenience and harm to our community. I believe that your contributions, coupled with so many others who selflessly assisted us in our time of need, made this possible.

Richard Pryor

Chief of police, Aspen
