Aspen taxi robbery suspect at large

ASPEN, Colorado ” A man suspected of robbing an Aspen taxi driver at knife point last weekend remains at large, authorities said Tuesday.

The alleged incident happened about 12:23 a.m. Saturday at the Truscott Place parking lot, near the city golf course. The suspect got away with $140 in cash, the Aspen Police Department said.

The driver, a Roaring Fork Valley resident, was not injured in the robbery. The taxi company and driver were not identified.

Stephanie Dasaro, spokeswoman for the department, said the driver was dispatched to the area to pick up a rider.

“The suspect was the rider,” she said.

The suspect is believed to be in his early 20s. He stands roughly 5 feet, 8 inches tall, weighs about 135 to 140 pounds, and has dark hair. He also has some dark facial hair below his lower lip.

The man, who also spoke with an “East Coast” accent, was wearing light-colored pants and a blue, hooded sweatshirt.

The incident is under investigation.

Anyone with information about the robbery is being asked to call Aspen police at 920-5400 or call 911 if they spot the suspect.
