Assailants kill family of six driving in Mexico

ACAPULCO, Mexico – Assailants armed with Kalashnikov rifles shot dead a family of six, including three children, and injured another three family members as they drove down a road in Mexico’s Pacific state of Guerrero on Sunday, officials said. The family was heading to their home in Mexico City after going to a party in the municipality of Iguala, about 250 km (155 miles) south of the capital, said Eduardo Murueta, Guerrero’s attorney general. The assailants ambushed the family’s Voyager SUV and escaped the scene, he said.Murueta said the attack may have been because of a personal dispute or could have been connected to drug trafficking.Drug-related violence has killed more than 1,000 people across Mexico this year. The three injured family members were taken to a hospital in Iguala where they were in stable condition, Murueta said.
