Assemblies to mark Veterans Day

EAGLE COUNTY ” The Minturn VFW Post 10721 will participate in two school assemblies today to mark Veterans Day.

All local honorably discharged veterans are welcome at the school assemblies to join post members.

– The first program will be at 9 a.m. today at Red Sandstone Elementary School in Vail. The speaker will be Sgt. Kenton Krohlow, a Vietname veteran. Following the assembly there will be a flag ceremony outside the school with Gary Thornton playing taps. A reception for veterans will follow. Krahlow served two years in the Army and one year as a forward observer in Vietnam in 1968 with the 1st Calvary Division. He has also served with the Wisconsin Army National Guard and the Colorado Army National Guard. Kenton owns a property management company.



– There will be another assembly at 2:45 p.m. today at Berry Creek Middle School featuring speaker Capt. Butch Mazzuca, a Vietnam veteran. Mazzuca served five years in the Marines and was a carrier qualified CH-46 helicopter pilot. He served one tour in Vietnam in 1969 and flew 400 combat missions performing search and rescue missions. Mazzuca is a local Realtor, ski instructor and columnist for the Vail Daily.
