At least 1 to plead guilty after Colorado prison riot
DENVER – At least one inmate has agreed to plead guilty to assault after a deadly race riot at a federal prison in Colorado 18 months ago.
Documents filed in federal court this week say inmate Jody Stamp will plead guilty to assault and aiding and abetting assault for beating another prisoner after the April 20, 2008, riot at the prison in Florence.
Prosecutors will recommend a two-year sentence. Stamp agreed to pay nearly $8,700 restitution for the cost of the victim’s medical care.
Prosecutors say Stamp and four other prisoners beat inmate Dirk Horne because he refused to take part in the riot about an hour earlier. He suffered a broken nose, fractured ribs, cuts, bruises and swelling.
Guards shot and killed two other inmates during the riot, which involved up to 200 inmates.
