Athlete-turned-singer visits Vail

Vail Daily staff report
Vail, CO Colorado

VAIL, Colorado “-World Cup skier and member of the U.S. Ski Team Bryon Friedman will be performing Saturday night at Samana Lounge in Vail, Colorado. The athlete-turned-artist is making his secondary career as a singer-songwriter, showcasing songs that he has written while traveling the world. Later this month Friedman will release his sophomore effort, “Matchstick Memories.”

Bryon has spent the last 10 years of his life traveling the world in pursuit of the perfect run ” spending countless hours in hotels, ski lifts, International terminals and cafe’s surrounded by coaches, athletes, fans and journalists. All the while he found relief in the corner of hotel lobbies, playing songs for a group of friends or penning lyrics on airline napkins on overnight trans-Atlantic flights. His trusty acoustic guitar accompanied him on nearly every trip as he crafted songs.

“Skiing has been the focal part of my life since I can remember so it definitely relates to my music on many different levels,” Friedman said. “A lot of my songwriting is done on the road while skiing, so it’s definitely intertwined in the music. If you’re in tune with the ski world it’s not hard to figure out what some of my songs are about.”

Friedman is gearing up for a series of gigs in the Rocky Mountain region ” an area he has an understandable affinity with.

“I was last in Vail/Beaver Creek for the Birds of Prey World Cup last December. I’m excited to perform here though. It will be fun to show passion off the hill and hear the response.”

Friedman will perform Saturday night at Samana Lounge in Vail from 9 to 10 p.m. The show is free. Call 970-476-3433 for more information.
