VAIL – The Tyler Hamilton Foundation is the heart of professional cyclist Tyler Hamilton, said Deirdre Moynihan, executive director of the one-year-old foundation. The foundation, based out of Marblehead, Mass., is dedicated to people diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and to MS research. The foundation’s mission is also to provide opportunity and access for individuals affected by multiple sclerosis and aspiring young athletes with a passion for cycling. “The Tyler Hamilton Foundation is dedicated to paving the road for aspiring young cyclists who do not have the opportunities that were provided to Tyler as he began his career,” Moynihan said.”There aren’t a lot of avenues to cycling,” she added. “You need someone to provide the environment, and we provide an organized structure.”Hamilton first got interested in MS when a friend of his mother got the disease.”People with MS gravitate towards us,” Moynihan said. “They say, look what he’s doing. He’s given them courage and hope. Because he does it every day. The doping allegations, the broken collarbone. He’s the ultimate ‘can do.’ Nothing is going to hold him back and people with MS need to see that.”CAN DO is The Heuga Center’s trademark program for people with multiple sclerosis. For more information, go to, Colorado
