We tune our skis, bikes and bring our cars into the service shop for a tune up, but what about our bodies? Are you tuning in to how you are feeling? Or is a past injury, recent surgery or present ailment preventing you from getting back out there doing your favorite activities or just life’s movements?

Attune Yoga: A Body Health Collaborative is a new wellness space in Edwards that started welcoming clients this spring and are now hosting a Grand Opening Party on Wednesday from 4-6 p.m.

“Attune reflects what I’ve seen in patients and students: the need to better listen to — and guide — both body and mind,” said Carrie Eckenhoff, creator of Attune Yoga.

“When we truly attune, the body has a remarkable capacity to heal. My hope is to build awareness and community around this. Yoga is a beautiful way to begin, and support from practitioners like physical therapists or acupuncturists can deepen the process.”

Eckenhoff is a physical therapist and a partner at Altius Physical Therapy. She saw the need to blend her physical therapy with yoga moves to help others.

“For a long time, I’ve wanted to create an accessible, inclusive space where people can heal, move and practice yoga. I’ve been working in the Vail Valley since 2013 and have a passion for helping people move more freely by easing both real and perceived limitations,” Eckenhoff said. “Yoga has been a steady support in my own life, and since becoming a certified instructor, I’ve loved weaving its principles into my work with patients.”

At Wednesday’s event there will be a free yoga class at noon and then events happening throughout the day including raffles and ear seeding. What’s ear seeding?  It’s a form of auriculotherapy that places small seeds on the ear with adhesive stickers.

“The ear serves as a micro-map of the entire body in Traditional Chinese Medicine, with hundreds of acupuncture points being found on the ear alone,” said Karen Rietz of MTN Acupuncture and Apothecary. “This map also serves as a gateway into the nervous system, sending messages from brain to body to address various health concerns and goals. It is a non-invasive, needle-free, acupressure-based practice.”

Carrie Eckenhoff is a physical therapist who created Attune Yoga, a co-working space for health and wellness practitioners.
