August warmer and wetter than average
August’s temperature and precipitation records confirm what most residents already know – it was wetter and warmer than normal.
The average daily high temperature was 82 degrees Fahrenheit; the daily low was 53 degrees.
The hottest day of the month, as recorded by veteran weather watcher Frank Doll of Avon, was 93 degrees on Aug. 14. The coldest temperature was 44 degrees on Aug. 31.
Meanwhile, precipitation – 2.11 inches – was nearly 45 percent higher than average.
“That’s a lot more than we usually get,” said Doll, who has been keeping weather records for the National Weather Service from his back yard weather station for 35 years.
