Aurora man dies in crash on Coffee Pot Road in Garfield County

GARFIELD COUNTY — A 42-year-old Aurora man died Monday night after he drove off a steep cliff on Coffee Pot Road. The man’s name is being held pending notification of his family.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. Monday, the Colorado State Patrol was notified of a crash on Coffee Pot Road, approximately nine miles from Colorado River Road. The man, the 2005 Ford pickup’s only occupant, was ejected in the crash and died on scene. The pickup fell nearly 120 feet off the dirt roadway.

It is unknown when the crash happened, and the cause is still under investigation.



Coffee Pot Road was shut down for about an hour and a half Tuesday while Big Steve’s Towing and Lucas Towing recovered the vehicle.

The Eagle County Sheriff’s Department, the Gypsum Fire Department, the Eagle County Ambulance District and the Vail Mountain Rescue Group responded to the scene along with the Colorado State Patrol.s
