Aurora: University hospital plans $400 million expansion
AURORA, Colo. – University of Colorado Hospital plans a $400 million expansion that hospital officials say will meet the growing demand for services and add 1,400 permanent jobs.
The hospital on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora will add a second building for inpatient and emergency care. The addition is scheduled to open in 2013 and will increase the current 407 beds by 144 and include space to expand further.
Bruce Schroffel, the hospital’s CEO and president, says the facility has been working near or above capacity since moving from Denver to Aurora in 2007.
The hospital is also trying to raise $20 million to expand the cancer center, where officials say they have seen a nearly 100 percent in the number of patients since the 2001 opening.
