Author Craig Johnson to visit CMC in Edwards on Sept. 8
EAGLE COUNTY — This year’s One Book One Valley author, Craig Johnson, is coming to Vail in September for a free author event followed by a book signing. Johnson is the award-winning and New York Times bestselling author of 13 Walt Longmire mystery novels, which are the basis for “Longmire,” the hit television drama.
The this year’s One Book One Valley kicked off in January for the fourth year of the program at the Eagle Public Library. It was followed by a series of events around the valley, including two murder mystery theater events.
The One Book One Valley 2015 read, “The Cold Dish,” is first in the Longmire Mystery Series. It was chosen for a variety of reasons. It is a title of high literary merit, has high appeal across age and gender lines and it allowed for new programming options such as a tie-in to the “Longmire” television series. The book has themes that resonate in our own community and, best of all, the author, a resident of Wyoming, has agreed to visit Eagle County in person.
One Book One Valley continues this summer with book discussions, film showings and Summer Reading Program incentives. Johnson’s author visit, originally scheduled in April, is re-scheduled for Sept. 8, at 6 p.m. at Colorado Mountain College in Edwards. Prior to this event, from 4 to 5 p.m., there will be a special meet and greet with the author, and folks may get their books autographed at that time.
All of Johnson’s books will be available for purchase at this event as well as later that evening.
The mission of the One Book One Valley initiative is to encourage reading among people of all ages and to bring the community together through a shared, common experience. The program strives to make the chosen book come alive through the events hosted, and the goal is for readers to throughly understand the setting of the book, as well as the characters.
One Book One Valley, a community read, is a collaborative program offered by Vail Public Library, Eagle Valley Library District, The Bookworm of Edwards and Colorado Mountain College in Edwards.
