Author of ‘Megatrends’ speaks at Vilar Center
VAIL – Patricia Aburdene, best-selling author of “Megatrends 2010 – The Rise of Conscious Capitalism” is the featured presenter at the Vail Leadership Institute’s next Speaker Series event Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Vilar Center in Beaver Creek.
The recently published book chronicles the social and economic trends transforming capitalism into a new, more holistic version of itself. Aburdene suggests that a megatrend is “a large, over-arching direction that shapes our lives for a decade or more.” “Megatrends 2010” goes beyond the previous megatrends books in quantifying economic and social transformation by depicting “the internal dimension of change, because the inner world of ideals and belief shapes our actions.” Aburdene has a track record in deciphering the signs of significant long-term change. In the first megatrends book more than 20 years ago, she and John Naisbitt described the birth of the information economy, an idea scoffed at by many. At this presentation, Aburdene will address several important questions, such as: What are the influences, pressures and trends that will affect leaders in the coming decade? What shifts are already taking place in organizations around America?
The Vail Leadership Institute has hosted a series of authors and organizational executives over the past ten years in a effort to expose the local community to accomplished leaders and thinkers. The institute’s purpose is to cultivate effective, ethical leaders. To learn more about Aburdene and Megatrends 2010, check her Web site at http://www.patriciaaburdene.com
