Avon apartment building evacuated
AVON — Avon police and the Eagle River Fire Protection District responded early Wednesday morning to a report of a suspected gas leak at Building 12 at the Buffalo Ridge Apartments, on Swift Gulch Road. After an updated report of elevated carbon monoxide levels, residents of Building 12 were evacuated and temporarily sheltered at the Avon Regional Transit Facility, also on Swift Gulch Road. The local chapter of the Salvation Army provided much-needed food and coffee to those who had been evacuated.
After the initial report at 2:45 a.m., residents were allowed back in their units around 7:30 a.m. No injuries were reported. Representatives of Corum Real Estate Group are working with RK Mechanical and the fire marshal to determine the cause and resolve the situation.
The response required a coordinated effort between the Avon Police Department, Eagle River Fire Protection District, Avon Transit, Vail Communications Center and the Salvation Army.
Safety information on carbon monoxide can be found at http://www.cdc.gov/co/faqs.htm.
