Avon appoints new police chief

AVON –Avon has named Robert Ticer, a 20-year professional law enforcement officer from the Arizona, its new police chief Tuesday.
Ticer began his career as a police officer in Prescott, Ariz., in 1989, and has since worked in several capacities for Department of Public Safety, including as highway patrol officer and sergeant, operational commander, staff lieutenant, and commander of multiple assignments. Currently, he leads a multi-agency statewide task force within the criminal investigations division, where he was responsible for 198 employees from 37 law enforcement agencies. His experience has also included leading police operations for major events at Arizona State University and the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.
“Bob has an extensive administrative and management background that will bring a great combination of leadership and experience to our department,” said Town Manager Larry Brooks. “He has managed a large organization and it is gratifying to have someone like him move to our community.”
Ticer has a master’s degree in educational leadership and a bachelor of science in criminal justice from Northern Arizona University. Additional training includes graduating from the FBI National Academy, Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command, Arizona State University Certified Public Manager Course, and Arizona Law Enforcement Training Academy.
Ticer will be relocating his family from Arizona and is scheduled to begin his new position with the Avon Police Department on April 26.
