Avon begins building new street Monday
Vail, CO Colorado
AVON, Colorado ” Parking at the Avon Recreation Center will be re-arranged Monday when construction begins on Lake Street as part of Avon’s downtown redesign.
The north part of the parking lot will be closed from Benchmark Road to the entrance of the rec center. To get to the recreation center, continue south on Benchmark and turn right at the library. There will be parking for the rec center and Nottingham Park south of the rec center.
The north end of Benchmark Road will be closed April 21, meaning the only way to get to the rec center will be from Avon Road, at the southern end of Benchmark Road. A new parking lot for the rec center will open in June to the east of the building.
Lake Street will eventually run from the intersection of Benchmark Road and West Beaver Creek Boulevard, past the rec center and between the fire station and town hall to a railroad crossing. Building Lake Street will be about $4.5 million.
When work on the southern part of the road begins in August, you will get to the rec center from West Beaver Creek Boulevard or the stretch of Benchmark Road the runs between the Seasons Building and the library.
Future plans include a plaza at the intersection of Lake Street and a future Main Street.
Updated construction information and maps with parking and detour information can be found online at http://www.avon.org/lakestreet. For any questions or concerns about the project, call Jeffrey Schneider at 748-4134.

Are we seeing more bears because there are more bears on the valley floor, or because we’re all spending more time at home? It could be a bit of both.
