Avon changes alcohol law
AVON – Members of the public wishing to hold a function in Avon’s Harry A. Nottingham Park where alcohol will be served will now need to apply to the Secretary of State Office for a nonprofit license prior to contacting the Avon Recreation Department for a picnic permit.Only those organizations with nonprofit status will be issued a picnic permit that allows alcohol consumption. The town’s new law allowing for a picnic permit stipulates that only beer and wine is to be served to members and guests of a nonprofit organization holding an event, and the alcohol being served at a function must be free. Event participants must stay within a designated park area, follow park rules and regulations, and laws regarding disorderly conduct will still apply. Special Event Permits issued by the town or by the state are not affected by this ordinance. Alcohol consumption under the picnic permit is only allowed in Nottingham Park and not in other Avon parks.For more information on park rules and regulations or on picnic permits, contact the Avon Recreation Department at 970-748-4032.
