City Market in Avon is renovating and expanding its store and will be adding additional departments.

The existing store has 54,300 square-feet of floor space and will be adding 3,700. The additional space is being gained from office space on the south side of the building that had been leased and was vacated.

“The expansion will help us meet the ever-changing needs of our customers in the Avon/Vail area,” said Tome Bell, City Market director of operations. “We’re very excited to be able to offer our customers more variety and selection then ever before.”

New at the store will be a one-hour photo department. City Market is also reportedly considering adding an in-store coffee shop. The store also will increase the customer service available in its meat and seafood departments.

The store will be expanding its deli, bakery, meat, frozen food and grocery departments as well as expanding its pharmacy.

The expansion will be completed by early summer. The store has been expanded and remodeled several times since it opened in 1980.
