Avon considers tax to expand bus routes

AVON, Colorado – The Avon Town Council will discuss Tuesday whether to ask voters to approve a sales tax increase to expand bus service in Avon and Beaver Creek, Colorado.
The discussion will take place at town hall from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and the council anyone who is interested in the issue to attend. Those who can’t be there can submit comments to http://www.avon.org/transitsurvey.-
Avon and Beaver Creek recently conducted a surveyed residents about transit. The survey showed support for adding service to the Village at Avon and Buffalo Ridge apartments, a Beaver Creek winter ski shuttle, and a bus route to Wildridge. There also was strong support for improvements to recreation paths and pedestrian routes.
In the survey, 67 percent said they would support a .75 sales tax increase to fund the transit expansion. The town says two-thirds of that would be paid by non-Avon residents.
