Avon cops lose Taser
AVON ” Uh… Hmm… Well, the Avon Police Departments isn’t really sure what happened, but one of the force’s Taser guns has gone missing.
“The exact date the Taser went missing is unclear, but most likely sometime in November,” said Mike Leake, the acting police chief.
Although the details about the loss are hazy, the police administration only learned about the missing Taser Tuesday, said Avon spokeswoman Jacquie Halburnt.
The good news is the Taser, a stun gun, should be harmless by now.
“The Taser should be completely useless to anyone,” Leake said. “It has a limited battery life and most likely has been drained by now and cannot be recharged.”
Participate in The Longevity Project
The Longevity Project is an annual campaign to help educate readers about what it takes to live a long, fulfilling life in our valley. This year Kevin shares his story of hope and celebration of life with his presentation Cracked, Not Broken as we explore the critical and relevant topic of mental health.
Police are offering $100 reward for information leading to the lost Taser.
“Losing a Taser gun is an unfortunate incident,” Halburnt said. “We can’t change that fact, but what we can do is make the public aware and hopefully recover it as soon as possible.”
The department has purchased eight Tasers over the last few years. Avon police officers can but do not always carry Tasers.
Anyone with information about the Taser should call the Avon Police Department at 748-4040.
