AVON, Colorado – Looks like Avon will have a contested town council race in November. A fifth candidate, Jim Benson, indicated this week that he plans to run for one of four open seats on council. Benson previously served on Town Council from 1995 to 2000.

Monday marked the deadline for submitting nomination petitions to the town.

The remaining candidates who intend to run for council include incumbents Rich Carroll and Dave Dantas, along with local builder Chris Evans and town planning commission chairman Todd Goulding.

The other two council seats that will be up for grabs belong to Ron Wolfe and Brian Sipes. Both reached their term limits and cannot run for re-election.

Town laws allow for write-in candidates to enter the race up until five days before the election.

Avon’s town hall, which stands at One Lake Street near Nottingham Park, will serve as the polling location, a town press release said. The polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m., town officials said. The last day to register to vote is Oct. 4, the release said.
