Avon hopes for transit building grants
Avon, CO Colorado
AVON, Colorado ” The town of Avon, Colorado is pursuing several grants to house local and county buses at the Swift Gulch, a transit facility just north of Interstate 70 at the Avon interchange. The project, which would be built in phases, would cost more than $36 million, with the first phase running anywhere from $18.5 million to $27 million.
The Avon Town Council voted to continue working on the project, and more specifically to find out exactly how much the county would contribute to it.
Jennifer Strehler, the town’s public works director, says the state ranks the project as the eighth most important transportation project in the state.
The project would eliminate congestion along Interstate 70, Strehler says.
Plus, it would lengthen the life span of local buses and save the town and the county money in the future, she said.
Wildfires have become more numerous, bigger and more destructive in the past 40 years. That’s a big deal in a town surrounded by public land.
